(AP Photo/Kamran Jebreili) AP Elon Musk says he’ll probably step down as the CEO of Twitter after he finds someone to take the role by the end of 2023. But I wouldn’t bet on it. Musk was appointed CEO of Twitter in October 2022 after he purchased the company. A Twitter poll asking for his opinion on whether he should step down was held in December. The poll resulted in 57.5% saying that he should allow someone to run the company, much to the surprise of many. Anecdotally, it seems even Musk’s biggest backers think he should put more focus into his other companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. However, the topic has kinda vanished over the past few months with Musk making headlines in different ways. This was until Musk was asked when he would step down during a conference We...

Twitter Called Out For Inadequate Disinformation Report

Photo by Chesnot/Getty images Getty Images The EU has criticised Twitter for not providing enough information regarding its disinformation efforts. It failed to submit a detailed report on how it was executing its obligations, in contrast with other signatories of Code of Practice on Disinformation such as Google Meta, Microsoft, and TikTok. These reports should contain information such as how much advertising revenue each company prevented from going to disinformation actors; the amount or value of any political ads that were accepted, labelled and rejected; instances where manipulative behavior was detected like the creation and usage of fake accounts; information about fact-checking’s impact. These reports will be submitted to the Transparency Centre, which is designed to provide visibility and accountability for platforms’ disinformation efforts. There are now 38 signatories to the code, ranging from large tech platforms like Google and Meta to non-profits, fact...

Getty Images Donald Trump was able to have his Instagram and Facebook accounts reinstated on Thursday despite the fact the former President orchestrated a failed coup against America’s government on January 6th, 2021. Trump has yet to post new material on either of his Instagram and Facebook accounts. Trump’s last Facebook message, which posed a threat to safety and security in the country, was in 2021. It included an appeal for insurrectionists not to be violent, but that came long after violence against Capitol Police began. Earlier Facebook messages to his supporters who’d assembled in Washington, D.C. were more characteristic of Trump, putting a target on the back of his Vice President Mike Pence. “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Const...

18 Jokes Elon Musk Stole From His Fans On Twitter

Elon Musk leaves the Phillip Burton Federal Building in San Francisco and United States Court House. … [+] Francisco, Jan. 24, 2023 (AP Photo/ Benjamin Fanjoy, File) 2023 Associated Press All Rights Reserved Elon Musk loves to make jokes on Twitter, but I’m starting to wonder whether he’s ever made an original joke in his life. Because anytime you see a joke or a meme from the billionaire owner of the social media platform, it’s almost always stolen from his fans without credit. Many people believed wild conspiracy theories when Musk purchased Twitter in October for $44Billion. Many people claimed that Musk wanted to help the Republicans win the 2022 midterm election. Other people claimed that he purchased it to delete embarrassing photos of him over the years. But after observing Musk’s ownership of the site for over three months, I think we can definitively say it’s none of those things. Musk simply loves laughing at everyone’s jokes and wants to be the one who mak...

Social Media Has An Answer For Everything – Unfortunately Many Are Conspiracy Theories You Shouldn’t Believe

Our current society’s acceptance of conspiracies is not new. … [+] Histories getty There has been much speculation about why the United States didn’t fire down the Chinese balloon slowly floating over the United States. Although the facts of the matter are well-known, many people on social media tried to make up their own opinions. The topic was not the most popular on social platforms. Many users debated how classified documents were found at President Joe Biden’s home, Hunter Biden’s laptop, and what even caused Damar Hamlin, safety officer for the Buffalo Bills, to suffer cardiac arrest last month. Social media has many answers. We shouldn’t be relying on it too much, since the sites continue to spread wild conspiracy theories and misinformation. These conspiracy theories and wild ideas are not solely the fault of social media. History is not new in its acceptance of conspiracy theories by the current population. Actually, evidence of the acceptance a...

Is Instagram considering paid verification? Code reveals references to a ‘paid blue badge’ New references in Instagram’s code suggest the company could be developing a paid verification feature following the rollout of a similar system at Twitter under Elon Musk. Recently discovered code snippets reference explicitly refer to a “paid blue badge” and a new subscription product, a developer has discovered. The same reference also appears in the latest build of the Facebook app, indicating paid verification could be offered across Meta’s platforms if the product continued to be developed. The discovery was made by developer and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who has previously spotted a number of new Instagram features before they launched, including the in-app scheduling tool that launched in November and the newer QR code sharing features . He’s also regularly spotted other internal prototypes, like Instagram’s Candid Challenges and features in development with Twitter. Typic...

Hacker finds bug that allowed anyone to bypass Facebook 2FA

Image
Hacker finds bug that allowed anyone to bypass Facebook 2FA A bug in a new centralized system that Meta created for users to manage their logins for Facebook and Instagram could have allowed malicious hackers to switch off an account’s two-factor protections just by knowing their phone number. Gtm Mänôz, a security researcher from Nepal, realized that Meta did not set up a limit of attempts when a user entered the two-factor code used to log into their accounts on the new Meta Accounts Center , which helps users link all their Meta accounts, such as Facebook and Instagram. With a victim’s phone number, an attacker would go to the centralized accounts center, enter the phone number of the victim, link that number to their own Facebook account, and then brute force the two-factor SMS code. This was the key step, because there was no upper limit to the amount of attempts someone could make. Once the attacker got the code right, the victim’s phone number became linked to the attacker’s...

Small business owners come to me regularly, asking for something they don’t want and they don’t need . I’m sharing this with you, because it’s a symptom of a problem and you’re probably making it, too ! Here it is. Plus how you can avoid it. First, here are some examples of dangerously misleading statements. I see these pretty-much every day from small business owners. I need more leads for our sales team. I need more enquiries from my website. I need more social media followers. I need more traffic to my website. They’re wrong! One hundred percent, provably wrong. More sales leads, additional client enquiries, bigger social networks and more website traffic are not their desired outcomes . That’s because they’re not end results. What business owners actually need, is more customers, higher profits, bigger contracts, higher revenues or more sales, etc. The challenge with searching for the wrong thing, is that it will lead you down th...

Donald Trump Might Make A Triumphant Return To Social Media (After That: So Long Truth Social)

DALLAS (TEXAS) – 14 SEPTEMBER: Donald Trump, Republican presidential candidate speaks at a campaign … [+] On September 14, 2015, a rally will be held at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. For the event, more than 22,000 tickets were distributed. (Photo by Tom Pennington/Getty Images.) Getty Images It is quite a surprise to me that Donald Trump might soon be posting again on Facebook and Twitter for people who follow social media trends. A huge deal, you might say. Meta recently announced that Trump would be returning to the platform within the next few weeks. Elon Musk already restored his Twitter account. Trump is prohibited from sharing his thoughts on social media by Truth Social due to an exclusive clause. But that contract expires in June. A contract never stopped the former leader of world affairs from making a decision. You can always see the money trail if you’re curious to learn more about Trump’s motives. As a bonus, Trump desired Truth S...

Trump Is Returning To Facebook – Should Measures Be Taken To Keep Him In Check?

Trump was expelled from the platform after the January 6th insurrection (Photo). … [+] Illustration by Pavlo Gonchar/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images This week, concerns were raised that Donald Trump’s return to Facebok might encourage others to react in the same way. He could also use the information to spread misinformation or to attack others. Meta, however, announced this week that they will restore the accounts of former President Trump on Facebook and Instagram. Trump had been banned from the platform following the insurrection on January 6th, 2021, and later referred that decision to the Oversight Board – an “expert body” the social network established to be an independent check and balance of its decision-making. The board upheld the decision, but criticised the vague nature of suspension and the absence of specific criteria about when accounts may be restored. The suspension was an exceptional deci...

How Better Focus Improves Your Social Life

Image
The average person today has an 8-second attention span. If that seems short, consider the world we live in. We are constantly bombarded with demands for our attention. Regular people receive up to 80 phone notifications every day. The average office worker sees their work interrupted every 11 minutes. The time we lose to digital distractions costs over $10,000 per person per year.  Worse than costing money or productivity, digital distractions also interfere with circadian rhythms. 3 in 5 adults say they are more tired than they have ever been. When we don’t sleep enough, we aren’t able to enjoy life. Both work and personal life suffer from our lack of focus and excess of distractions. Millions of people self-medicate their lack of focus with caffeinated drinks. The average American drinks 85 liters of caffeinated drinks per year. While caffeine offers several benefits, more is not the solution. Caffeine alters sleep schedules, giving us even less quality sleep. Furthermo...
